Pertama jalankan dulu program Adobe After Effect, setelah itu pilih File->Import->File (Ctrl + i). Selanjutnya pilih berkas video atau foto yang mau kita Import ke After Effect, pilihlah format yang sudah support dengan affter effect. Jika file yang kita masukkan ternyata tidak support, maka adobe after effect akan menolak file tersebut, biasanya berupa error.
Selain jalan di atas, kita juga bisa mengimpor dengan lebih cepat yaitu dengan lansung mendrag file ke adobe after effect. Setelah proses import selesai saatnya kita memasukkan file kita ke dalam composition. Untuk memasukkan file kedalm compositin kita bisa lansung mendrag file kita, seperti gambar di bawah ini.
Namun jika kita ingin menseting composition sesuai dengan keinginan dan kebutuhan kita caranya dengan mengklik Composition->New Composition (Ctrl + n).
Untuk ukuran frame standar Indonesia biasanya menggunakan PAL DV standar, yaitu ukuran framenya lima banding empat (5:4) 720X576 dengan frame rate 25 frame per second.
Sekarang langkah terakhir yaitu cara Export file yang sudah kita edit. Sangat banyak pilihan dan ragamnya file untuk export di after effect, mulai dari file untuk website, sampai file film layar lebar. Untuk menjaga hasil file kita tetap bagus sebaiknya kita export menggunakan pre-render. Clik Composition->Pre-render.

Adobe After Effects merupakan sebuah software yang sangat profesional untuk kebutuhan Motion Graphic Design. Dengan perpaduan dari bermacam – macam software Design yang telah ada, Adobe After Effects menjadi salah satu software Design yang handal. Standart Effects yang mencapai sekitar 50 macam lebih, yang sangat bisa untuk mengubah dan menganimasikan obyek. Disamping itu, membuat animasi dengan Adobe After Effects, juga bisa dilakukan dengan hanya mengetikkan beberapa kode script yang biasa disebut Expression untuk menghasil pergerakan yang lebih dinamis.
Adobe After Effects memiliki fitur – fitur penting, misalnya Adobe After Effects memiliki alat untuk membuat Shape ( seperti yang terdapat pada Adobe Photoshop ). Pada Adobe After Effects terdapat Keyframe seperti yang terdapat pada Adobe Flash ( cara menganimasikannya juga hampir sama ). Terdapat juga Expression yang hampir mirip dengan Action Script pada Flash, dan masih banyak lagi yang lain.
